A home that works the way you do

Sometimes the barrier is not you. It is a doorway that is 70 centimetres wide, a step at the back door, or a bathroom you cannot use safely on your own. Those things can be changed.

It starts with an occupational therapist

Every NDIS home modification begins with an OT assessment. We come to your home, watch how you actually move through it, and work out what would make the biggest difference for the least disruption.

Often that is smaller than people expect: a rail in the right place, a threshold ramp, a different tap. Sometimes it is a full bathroom modification. Either way you get a clear written specification and the reporting the NDIA needs to make a decision.

We think about the next five years, not just today, and we think about everyone who lives in the house.

Renting? It is still possible

Modifications to a rental need the owner's written consent, and there are ways to approach that conversation which work better than others. We have done it before and we will help you through it.

What we assess and specify

  • BathroomsLevel-access showers, grab rails, shower seating, tap and basin changes, toilet height and support.
  • KitchensBench and cupboard heights, reachable storage, appliance placement and safety changes.
  • Moving around insideDoorways, corridors, flooring and surfaces, and clear turning space where it is needed.
  • Sensory and safety changesLighting, acoustics, contrast for low vision, and safety features suited to how you use the space.

Delivered under NDIS registration groups 0111 Home Modification and 0128 Therapeutic Supports. Construction work is carried out by appropriately licensed and insured trades.

The process

From first visit to finished work

Home visit

An OT comes to you, sees how you use the space, and talks through what is difficult and what you want to be able to do.

Report and design

A written assessment with clear recommendations, drawings or specifications where needed, and the evidence to support funding.

Quotes and approval

Quotes from licensed trades, submitted with the report. We help you understand what is being proposed before anything is signed.

Build and sign-off

Work is carried out, then the OT checks it against the specification and that it does what it was meant to do.

Home modifications, answered

Minor modifications can move quite quickly. Larger ones involve NDIA approval and building work, and realistically take several months from first visit to completion. We will give you an honest timeline at the start rather than an optimistic one, and tell you where the waiting points are.

Not to get started. The OT assessment itself is usually funded from Capacity Building, and that assessment is what forms the evidence for a request for the modification funding. So the assessment normally comes first.

It happens. Some buildings genuinely cannot be made to work, or the cost is out of proportion to the benefit. We will tell you that plainly and help you think about the alternatives, whether that is equipment, different supports, or looking at housing options.
